I have served as Treasurer and Trustee for the Café Project Basingstoke since before the Café Dome first opened in 2011. Recently retired from a long career in IT Services, I bring a broad range of management skills to benefit the Café Project.

My daughter was diagnosed with a severe learning disability at 18 months old. After moving to Basingstoke in 1985, I served as a Governor of Limington House School for many years and joined several parent pressure groups advocating for improved services for our children and their peers.

My personal experience has highlighted the significant challenges faced by young adults with learning disabilities as they transition from Education Services to Adult Services.

The Café Project was established to provide meaningful work opportunities and training for young adults with learning disabilities in the Basingstoke area. It offers a place for them to learn useful skills, gain work experience, develop a purposeful role, and earn the respect of their colleagues and customers in a community-based café.

Since its opening in 2011, the Café Dome has grown from strength to strength, becoming an established community asset.
I believe everyone should have the opportunity to attend a workplace, work as part of a team, and achieve a sense of purpose that enriches their entire life.
